About

"Compassion is not a bending toward the underprivileged from a privileged position; it is not reaching out from on high to those who are less fortunate below; it is not a gesture of sympathy or pity for those who fail to make it in the upward pull. On the contrary, compassion means going directly to those people and places where suffering is most acute and building a home there." -Nouwen

I believe this with every ounce of my being.

But what implications does this have for my real life? As a person who loves Jesus and loves His Word? As someone who is passionate about the social work profession? How do I combine these things and not compromise the integrity of either?

And maybe it’s not about the integrity of the profession or the integrity of ministry. Maybe it’s about not compromising the integrity of the people.

Maybe that’s the whole point.

Maybe we should talk about it.
